Artist: Jan Anderson – Quilting

Although Jan and her husband moved to Burnt River full-time in 2010, they have been coming up to their haven in the northern Kawartha Lakes for the past 20 years. This special place is surrounded by water, rapids and a wide range of wildlife, all of which feature prominently in her artwork.

Jan describes herself as a diverse textile artist who manipulates wax, rust, paint, dye, pigment and many other techniques to create her pieces. All of her work tells two stories. The first is from a distance, but it’s not distant: It draws the viewer in, where a second and more intimate story begins.

Her grandfather inspires her work, through his gentle teachings and passion for nature, which has resulted in a love for all forms of life.

It is Jan’s hope to inspire others to appreciate, respect and fall in love with our great province and the creatures who reside in this incredibly beautiful area—sentiments I totally agree with!
