Funny Fathers: Father’s Day

I met Denis Grignon about seven years ago through his wife Nancy Payne. Their boys were at the same elementary school as a couple of my daughters and we soon discovered we shared a love of many things: small-scale farming, rural life, raising chickens and kids, baking and preserving.

Nancy makes an award-winning peach pepper preserve that, I confess, I’ve adopted. And in fact it was with Denis that I shared the purchase of what Denis calls a “stinkubator” (his name for an incubator—maybe after the smell if things didn’t work out so great in the chicken-hatching front?).

Anyway, Nancy became a fast friend and now helps me with South Pond on many fronts. I was very familiar with Denis’s sense of humour from our personal interactions and had seen him perform on stage at the Academy Theatre in Lindsay. Recently, though, I saw him on his No Foul Language Comedy Tour at Showplace in Peterborough and fell for his routine all over again. I took my 12-year-old daughter Aubrey Rose, and we both laughed OUT LOUD for the entire two hours.

I knew Denis was funny, but I guess I wasn’t expecting him to be THAT funny. Honestly, I couldn’t stop laughing! So I was thrilled that he and his fellow No Foul Language participant Steve Levine are coming to perform after dinner on Father’s Day at South Pond on June 16th.
