Annual Snow Day Event


The last two years we hosted Snow Day, we have anxiously awaited snow.

It’s stressful planning an event that relies so heavily on weather conditions. If it rains during a wedding, we have a backup plan indoors, if there’s no snow for Snow Day, thats something entirely out of our control. Lo and behold, both years Mother Nature has pulled through and we have had the largest snowfall of the season the evening before. It couldn’t have been more perfect – sun, mountains of snow, lots of people. The stars were aligned for a magical day. Of course, it’s no different this year – it hasn’t been the most perfect of conditions for winter sports around here. My cross country skis are still in storage. All we can do is wait and hope for another perfect winter day.

We’ve added a new element this year – a dinner around the fire and a torch light ski. My friend, Dale, actually suggested the guided evening tour and it seemed like a good idea at the time (although there are a few people around here who are skeptical as to whether or not people will brave the cold!). Winter can be such a wonderful time to get out and why not enjoy food around the fire and a ski or snow shoe into the woods. Now as the planning actually goes into effect I’m wondering who is carrying the torch, how we will be actually eating the dinner around the fire, etc. These are just minor details which I’m sure will all work out. Somehow. It’s a first for us – and the Supper Club begins!

Snow Day, February 21st 1:00-4:30

A ski, snacks (pizza and soup) hot chocolate $20 per family or $10 per person which includes the trials, equipment (from Camp Kawartha) and a mug of hot chocolate or coffee and then 4:30 – 6:00 torch light ski, German Bier garden and beef bourguignon by the fire $35 and must be reserved. Email for reservations.

Danielle’s vision is to inspire others to share her vision of a traditional life and way of cooking and to feel the sense of history on this beautiful land.
